In my view, the International Homoeopathic Foundation has a responsibility to take Homoeopathy to a respectable, acceptable, and the first line of option in the Health Care.
When I express these feelings, it is important that we should have respect for the History of Medicine, the situations prevailing in different periods, and the challenges being faced by the medical profession from time to time.
No doubt, Hippocrates has been regarded as the Father of Modern Medicine, yet going back to the ancient cultures, we should not forget that Charak has been the father of medicines, and Sushrut that of Surgery. The History of Ayurveda dates back to more than 5000 years ago.
Both these modes of treatment have broad sub-divisions, as the causes of the diseases, administration of medicines, diet in respect to a disease management, as well as the Life Style. It is equally important to understand that both these approaches have their utility as well as limitations, and in the interest of the patient care, both these applications may be required in a single patient depending upon the necessity at a particular state, which may be diseased, or healthy.
When we understand the above as our responsibility properly, we are able to do justice to the role assigned to us, or in other words, to the profession we have chosen ourselves. It is here that we have to choose the quality, rather than quantity, and thus we have to keep ourselves updated with the latest developments in the areas of Science & Technology and their application in the field of Medicine. Also, as we have chosen to be associated with the TADARTHIKARI CHIKITSA, we have to be sincere to the principles laid down in the Organon of Medicine by Dr. Samuel Hahnemann.
To fulfil our objective we have to keep on enlightening the masses about Homoeopathy, as also to keep on conducting various academic programmes to keep ourselves updating with the day-to-day requirements, and the challenges. Equally, we have to instil confidence in the younger generation to carry on our mission. To spread the awareness amongst the masses, we need to have increased availability of the Health Care Centres, from Primary to Tertiary to Big Institutions. In the present times, there is an acute shortage of Hospitals catering to the Homoeopathic Treatment, and due to the lack of proper infrastructure we are forced to shift the patients to the other systems.
Thus establishment of Homoeopathic Hospitals becomes the need of the Hour, and with such an infrastructure, we can have well documented cases to prove the scientific basis of our system of medicine. At present our students face lot of problems while learning to attend to the patients in the OPDs in the allopathic hospitals. What I have observed is that they are not able to diagnose the diseased condition properly, and on the contrary they unlearn what they are taught in the classes. This is an area requiring immediate correction.
